Saitama

Saitama, just a stone’s throw from Tokyo, is a prefecture that balances urban vibrancy with tranquil escapes. Often overshadowed by its famous neighbour, it boasts its own charm, blending modern convenience with deep-rooted traditions and nature. In the capital, Saitama City, the Railway Museum is a highlight, perfect for history buffs and families. The Omiya Bonsai Village, a peaceful enclave of meticulously tended trees, reflects Japan’s dedication to artistry and patience. Saitama Stadium hums with excitement during football matches, drawing fans from across the country. Further afield, the Chichibu region offers a natural retreat. Its rolling hills, lush forests, and striking rock formations are especially captivating during the spring cherry blossom season or the autumn foliage. The annual Chichibu Night Festival, with its illuminated floats and fireworks, is a spectacle that rivals the best of Japan’s matsuri. Whether it’s enjoying a quiet walk by the riverside, marvelling at bonsai craftsmanship, or exploring historic shrines, Saitama offers a delightful mix of relaxation and exploration. Here are some of the photos I captured during my visits. Enjoy your virtual tour!
