Greek and Roman Statues
Another favourite area of mine in the Musée du Louvre is the collection of Greek and Roman statues. Wandering through these galleries feels like stepping back into the grandeur of ancient civilisations, surrounded by the timeless beauty of marble and stone.
The sculptures are breathtaking in their detail and craftsmanship, from the elegance of the Venus de Milo to the powerful form of the Fighting Warrior. Each piece tells a story, whether it’s of gods and heroes, legendary battles, or moments of quiet human emotion. The serene expressions, intricate drapery, and perfect proportions are a testament to the artistry of those eras.
These galleries are more than just a display—they are a dialogue between the past and present, offering glimpses into the beliefs, ideals, and creativity of ancient Greece and Rome. For me, this section of the Louvre is both awe-inspiring and calming, a space where I could lose myself for hours, marvelling at the timeless elegance and artistry of these sculptures.
