Two hours mandatory lecture to renew one's driving license. Doesn't matter if your japanese is not good enough (like myself), or if you sleep through it (like a couple of guys around me), all you have to do is sit!

In Japan, you need to renew your driver's license every 3 to 5 years: no renewal without passing an eye test.

For once that I'm in the same time zone as the Olympics, I can't even watch the events I'm interested in. NHK doesn't care too much about the events where no Japanese athletes are involved while live internet broadcast are not accessible outside of the country of origin (this screenshot is from France, but the same applies to e.g. BBC). This is just about money and it really sucks !

In the 70s, a temporary tax on gas was approved by the Japanese Governement and lasted for about 30 years. Its disappearance a few weeks ago made the gas price drop by about 20%. Needless to say that the introduction of a new tax was swift... But why taxing users to compensate while oil companies post always higher and more and more unacceptable profits?
